 Provoke Radio

Community Media
Provoke Radio is a compelling, 30-minute weekly radio program whose mission is to engage listeners in a reflection of contemporary issues from the vantage of their own faith. The program explores issues of social justice and ethics within the context of inter-religious dialogue, revealing a rich treasure of common values. Provoke believes communications is a mighty tool in the promotion of justice. In a world where many voices are absent from the more powerful media, Provoke tackles issues that affect the poor and marginalized throughout the world. And in so doing, provides a voice for the voiceless.

About the Host

Father Stephen Spahn, SJ, is a Jesuit priest and currently serves as associate pastor at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, DC. Father Spahn received his Certificat d'Etudes Politiques from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris, France; B.S. and M.S. degrees in International Politics and Foreign Policy Studies from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Washington DC; his M.A. in Philosophy from Fordham University, New York; and his Masters of Divinity and Theology from Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He recently taught philosophy and political science at Loyola College in Baltimore. His time at Loyola involved work in their Center for Values and Service where he came to know and understand the complicated problems of the Baltimore community. In addition, Fr. Spahn has done case studies of the U.S. foreign policy in the Sudan and has traveled to and worked in Mexico, Haiti, and China among others. Father Spahn serves as the host for Provoke in between all his other ministries!

The Distribution

Provoke radio is delivered through streaming mp3s. Clicking on the speaker icon in the provokeradio.com website will automatically open your default MP3 player and begin streaming the audio file, that is, if your mp3 player is set to automatically play streaming mp3s. If not, the mp3 file will download to your computer and you will need to open it from your chosen mp3 player application.

Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio programs, over the Internet for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. Usually a podcast features one type of program, with new episodes released periodically, such as daily or weekly. Podcasting's essence is about creating content for an audience that wants to listen when they want, where they want, and how they want. You can listen to our shows one at a time (say using your web browser) or you can 'subscribe' to the entire podcast series using software on your computer. When you subscribe to our podcast, all new shows will be automatically downloaded to your computer as they are published. And if you have an MP3 player, the next time you sync your device, your podcasts will be downloaded for listening on the go.
